How do I know if my miniature horse is getting too fat?
My mini horse has been on 24/7 pasture turnout all of his life. He is one year old now and was just gelded a few months ago. He's really filling out now, and recently he's been toting around this big round belly. Most minis have big bellies and my guy is not the sleek "Arab" build anyway, he's more of the "draft horse" build. How do I know when he's truly getting fat or if he's just got a big belly full of grass?? He is only on grass and hay in the winter, he doesn't get grain at all since minis are so prone to being overweight.

Also, mini's can founder if overfed. You might want to limit his access to so much pasture. He also sounds like he is getting a hay belly. Does he get exercise?
