I think my horse has a splint on her front left leg, what do they look like?
She is 12, and has a bump on her leg, its the size of a quarter, and it doesnt irritate her when i press on it, and it isnt hot. I may call the vet, but i was just wondering if anyone knows what they look like? I have a pic, i will try to figure out how to post it.
its a hard bump
It looks exactly like the pic. on the link that Tesseventer101 posted, except it is on the front left outside leg, and it is only one bump.
Thanks for the info! I will probably end up calling out our vet. It is definetaly not a fly bite though, I have seen those on my other horse.
If it isn't sensitive to the touch and isn't hot it probably isn't a splint, but you might want to apply an ice pack and see if the swelling goes down. Don't ride her for a couple days (and confine her so she can't be running around a lot) and check on the bump several times each day.
She may have just whacked it on a board or her feeder or something out in the field that has caused a subdural hematoma. If that has happened the cold pack will help it go away.
If it doesn't go down, or gets bigger, or hot, get the vet out for an exam.
